Airport Photos – A Collection
Airports aren’t always the most photogenic places, although there are some that are pretty nice. Changi Airport is spectacular, and the Qatar Airways business class lounge in Doha is amazing. Tiny, quirky airports are fun, too and we’ve seen a few of those on our travels in Africa, the Pacific and other tropical places. Here are some of the airports we’ve passed through in our travels. We’ll keep adding to this post as our travels continue. I’m sure we’ll be taking lots more airport photos now that we have a blog named Airports and Sunsets.
King County International Airport (Boeing Field) – Seattle, Washington, USA (BFI)
This first one is a bit of a cheat, it isn’t an airport we actually landed at or took off from. It’s actually the home of the awesome Museum of Flight. This place is well worth a visit for anyone with the most casual interest in aviation.

Juan Santamaría International Airport – San Juan, Costa Rica (SJO)
We flew into this airport on a 737 from Houston, then walked the short distance from the international terminal to make a domestic connection. Maybe next trip to Costa Rica we’ll have time to see more of San Jose than the rooftops.

Golfito Airport – Golfito, Costa Rica (GLF)
The flight from San Jose to Golfito is spectacular. Landing in Golfito is a lot of fun. The plane makes a sharp turn then lines up to touch down on a strip carved out of the jungle. No jetways here, you climb out of the small plane, grab your bags and wander off the tarmac to a waiting taxi.

Calgary International Airport – Calgary, Alberta, Canada (YYC)
The new international terminal is nice and it’s handy being able to clear US immigration before you get on the plane. The CBP officers here seem more laid back than the ones who deal with the mass arrivals in Houston or (ugh) Los Angeles. Calgary has a great frontier history, reflected by some large scale art in the airport arrival hall.

Narita Airport – Tokyo, Japan (NRT)
We had an extended layover at Narita waiting for our friends to arrive in Japan the next day. We had time to go into nearby Narita town to do a bit of exploring, but we also spent a bit of time in the large and well-equipped airport itself, including a visit to the observation deck.

This small airport is the base for scenic flights in small planes over the mysterious Nazca Lines.
